Bajaj and Renault-Nissan have yet to ink the deal for producing their ultra-cheap car for the developing markets. It has been over four months when the companies had announced their wide-spectrum plans about producing a Nano-competitor in the Indian market. According to the earlier announcement made by Carlos Ghosn, Chief of Nissan-Renault Alliance, Bajaj would provide the necessary know-how for producing the car while Renault-Nissan will handle sales and distribution of the car.
"The details of the small car project with Bajaj will be announced in due course of time...we have announced that the car will be launched sometime in 2012," Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd MD and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said. He stated further that the companies will reveal more details at a later stage.
As per the MoU signed between Renault-Nissan and Bajaj Auto in 2008, Bajaj would hold 50 percent stake in the new ULC project while Nissan and Renault will have 25 percent stake each. The model will be manufactured at Bajaj’s new facility at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra.
