Bajaj Auto has proudly introduced yet another bike in 100 cc segment, Discover 100 T, with a price tag of Rs. 50,500 (ex-showrooms New Delhi). Reportedly, the new model is targeted to the upper class buyers, who were looking for an efficient bike from a long time. With the launch of new model in 100 cc segment, Bajaj Auto has delivered a direct face off to Hero MotoCorp Passion and Honda Dream Yuga, which are presently trying to rule the segment. Interestingly, Bajaj Auto has captured almost one fifth of the market by offering an array of 100 cc bikes in its Discover and Platina range.

The newly introduced Discover 100 T is powered by 4-valve DTS-i technology, which enables its engine to churn out a peak power of around 10 bhp. The auto maker has claimed that its new model is 30 per cent more fuel efficient than the other bikes present in same segment, which makes Discover 100 T to deliver a mileage of 87 kmpl. Speaking on the performance of new bike, the President (motorcycle business) of Bajaj Auto, K Srinivas said, “The power of a 125 cc with the economy of a 100 cc.”

The auto maker has provided an appealing yet dominating look to the new model. Discover 100 T features a muscular fuel tank and angular headlight, which complements its 10-spoke alloy wheels.

According to company officials, the mass market segment accounts for almost two-third of the entire bike industry. Reportedly, there are mainly three sub-segments which record the sales of around 5.5 lakh 100 cc motorcycles every month. In A1 segment, comprising Bajaj Platina and Hero HF, the bikes are priced between Rs. 40,000-43,000, while in A2 segment, which includes Hero MotoCorp Splendor, Passion and Bajaj's Discover 100, the price floats from Rs. 44,000 to Rs. 49,000. In A3 segment, the Indian motorcycle market has Honda Dream Yuga and Hero MotoCorp Passion Pro, which are all priced in Rs. 48,000 and Rs. 54,000 band.

With the launch of Discover 100 T, Baja Auto has marked a superb entry in A3 sub-segment. At the launch ceremony, the senior company officials said that Bajaj is looking forward to sell around 40,000 to 45,000 units of the new model each month.

Speaking on the sidelines, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj, said, “We have more than a 40 per cent market share in the executive and the premium motorcycle space, so there is no reason why our share in the mass market segment should remain at 20 per cent. We believe we can improve this to at least 30 per cent over the next couple of years.” He concluded by saying that a new model will be also added to the Discover family before the end of 2013. Interestingly, the Discover series already has five models, including the recently launched Discover 100 T, starting from 100 cc to 150 cc segment.
