The upcoming New Delhi Auto Expo is expected to introduce the country a wide range of vehicles that will enthral auto enthusiasts. All the cars being unveiled at the mega event will be vying to become the favourites of buyers in their respective segments. Many car makers will try to make their mark at the event and have planned their strategies well in advance to conquer the Indian auto market.

Mahindra & Mahindra enjoyed a successful 2011 with its Thar and the highly appreciated XUV500. However, the company has not diminished its efforts and aims to penetrate further in the domestic market in 2012. The manufacturer will mainly focus on pulling the covers off its Ssangyong range. M&M acquired 70 per cent share in the South Korean company and will include Ssangyong’s line-up to strengthen its position in India.

Ssangyong Rexton and Korando E, both Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), are likely to be showcased at the event. While the former will compete with Delhi Auto Expo 2012, but it is unclear whether M&M would bring forward its luxury sedan model, Chairman H.

In addition to Ssangyong, Mahindra & Mahindra will unveil two electric vehicles that are based on Reva NXR and Verito. The electric version of Reva NXR is expected to draw majority of people to Mahindra’s stands. The Delhi Auto Expo will also be the platform for the unveiling of the sub-4 metre Mini Xylo, which will be presented as a premium hatchback as well as a compact SUV.

The year 2011 was a fruitful one for Mercedes-Benz, with car launches like the SLS AMG, R-Class, new CLS and the SLK convertible. The company is all set to further promote the SLS range with its latest SLS AMG Roadster. The SLS Gullwing of Mercedes-Benz was created to honour the novel SL range of the 1960s and the Roadster was always expected to join the league. However, it is assumed that the Roadster will be available in the market at a lower price than Gullwing.

Mercedes-Benz’s stand will also feature two variants each of the DTM and GT3 racers, which are based on the SLS platform. These will be displayed on-stage with the German manufacturer’s range of AMG performance cars. Furthermore, the company will exhibit the A-Class concept car, which will be packed with innovative technologies. The final version of the A-Class will compete with BMW’s Mini Cooper and other similar models. Auto aficionados can also get details regarding the Mercedes-Benz JPSI Performance Driving Academy at the Auto Expo.

With so many line-ups, 2012 will certainly prove to be a big year for auto enthusiasts, who will be enticed by many high end performance vehicles.
