The Indian arm of Audi, a world renowned German automobile marque, is working towards the launch of its most basic model- A3 sedan in the domestic market by the end of 2013 calendar year. At present, Audi A4 is the cheapest sedan offered to Indian public under Audi brand, which carries a retail price tag in the range of Rs. 30 to 32 lakhs. The price of base model of Audi A3 could be as low as Rs. 15 lakhs.
The upcoming A3 saloon looks set to become the cheapest Audi model to scorch local streets, upon its launch in the country. The grapevine is abuzz with rumours that the stylish A3 could see Indian daylight with a sub Rs. 20 lakhs introductory price tag. Audi's fellow German auto maker Mercedes-Benz has also revealed intentions to introduce its most basic product, CLA sedan in the country as well. The Mercedes-Benz CLA will sit under the C-Class range and will be posing stiff competition against Audi A3, if its launched in Indian premium car market by then.
Coming to under-the-hood specification of upcoming Audi A3, the sedan is expected to come fitted with three engine options- 1.4 litre TFSI, 1.8L TFSI in the petrol variants and an economical 2.0 litre TDI motor in its diesel trim-levels. The engine assembly will come mated to a seven speed S-tronic transmission system.
The Audi A3 will possess top-of-the-line sporty and luxury design attributes in its overall package. Exterior dimension wise, the A3 will be slightly shorter than its A4 (4.76 metre in length) sibling at 4.4 metre in length. Further, the stylish saloon will be trimmed with many cutting edge attributes, such as front and reverse park assist, active lane assist, traffic sign detection, automatic cruise control and adaptive front and rear lights.
