India is already witnessing a rise in sale of luxury cars. Along with Mercedes and BMW, Audi also has new expansion plans for India.

"The sale of total luxury cars in India during first two months of this year posted 176 per cent growth, while the car industry as a whole posted just 9 per cent growth, which shows the demand for luxury cars, is growing at a tremendous pace." says Audi India MD, Benoit Tiers, who was here to launch a showroom. "Soon India will be among five major car markets for the company," he added.

The company has already sold 220 units in the first quarter of 2008. It expects to sell around 1200 units by the year end.

"We are expecting to sell 1,200 of our cars in the Indian market in 2008 compared to 350 cars sold last year on the back of growing demand for luxury cars in the market," he said

Audi has plans to start assembling its units in India and has already invested 10 million Euros. However, it first launch model, A4 variant, is still awaited in India. Moreover, the company also plans to launch its smaller SUV Q5 sometime later. This SUV would be first launched in Europe and UK. The timeline for the launch of small SUV is yet not final.
