Reports have emerged that the new Audi R8 will be launched in India in the first part of 2016. The second generation of the German supercar, which is also a top of the range version, has been in the news for quite some time now. The model gets a 5.2-litre V10 petrol mill, which will generate 601 bhp power. The car has also been provided with a freshly developed Quattro All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. The car has been reported to sprint to 100 kilometres per hour from rest in a mere 3.2 seconds. The top speed, which can be achieved by this supercar, is 330 kilometres per hour.

The all-new R8 is based on a completely new space frame structure and is claimed to weigh only 200 kilograms. It is essentially made from aluminium, however, carbon fibre reinforced plastic elements has been utilised in abundance for adding bulk and better the rigidity. The top-end model R8 V10 has made a mark by having a gross weight of 1454 kilograms only. The new generation R8 has almost similar dimensions as the old model with an increase of 39 mm in width and 9 mm lower than the older variant. The current dimensions of the new R8 are 4442 mm in length, 1241 mm in height and 1944 mm in width.

The new R8 has almost similar styling aspects as the old variant, with the only addition being a renewed single-frame grille as well as LED headlamps. Audi has instilled some innovation in the headlamps, which have laser headlights. This technology uses a laser-guided spot light mostly for the high beam, supported by dynamic and convenient turning signals, both on the front and rear ends.

The new R8 has been given a completely upgraded version of the old model’s 5.2-litre mill, which has been provided in dual tune. The car is capable of generating 532 bhp power and a torque of 55 kgm for the standard, while the more powerful Plus variant is capable of generating 601 bhp and 57.1 kgm of torque. Also, the V10 mill has been provided with an all-new cylinder-on-demand system. Transmission duties are done with the seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic gearbox has been slightly modified, which gives an automatic start-stop system. Incidentally, it has been reported that the efficiency will be improved by 10 per cent.
