Audi India, the wholly owned subsidiary of top German luxury car maker Audi has registered a whopping growth of 89 per cent in November 2012 sales, as compared to last year. This November, the company has been able to clock sales of 825 units, which is a huge increment from the 425 units sold during the same period in 2011. From January to November 2012, a total of 8072 units have been sold, which is 58 per cent more than the sales recorded during the same period last year (5117 units).

Originally a sales target of 8000 units had been decided for the year 2012, but since a figure of 8072 units has already been achieved, this number has been revised to 8600 by the company. Audi aspires to become the number one luxury auto maker in India by 2015, having already left behind Mercedes Benz India in terms of sales numbers. Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, feels that India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world, with a growth rate of almost 50 per cent. Lauding the efforts of the company, he added, “Although the market situation is tough, we have been able to get good sales as we have been able to expand our product portfolio and increase sales network. Besides, we have been really focusing on building the Audi brand.”

Primary sales models for the German car maker have been A4 and A6 saloons, which are followed by Q3, Q5 and Q7 SUVs. This has been possible due to a top down strategy that has worked for the company, even in an economically demanding environment. Perschke has also announced that by the end of 2013, 90 per cent of the vehicles to be sold by Audi India will be locally assembled. A new assembly line for Audi is scheduled to be starting with the present VW facility in Aurangabad, which will increase production from 9000 to 12000 units a year and could also mean cheaper models in future.
