The Volvo V90 Cross Country has debuted in India and costs Rs 60 lakhs (All India ex-showroom).  It’s the third car from 90 series family and is the most rugged one to be brought to India. It is offered in one top-of-the-line D5 Inscription variant and across seven colour options.

All you need to know about the Volvo V90 Cross Country

      Design language
The V90 in this Cross Country avatar has quite a bit of presence, thanks to its massive length as well as contrast-coloured body cladding which gives the car its muscular presence. Of course, if one were to look at a Volvo, they are sure to notice the Volvo signature ‘Thor hammer’ head lamps, grille and arrow shaped tail lamps that  extend all the way to the roof to give the car its distinct identity.

      Feature list
It’s a no-nonsense minimalistic affair on the inside of the V90 Cross Country. Taking inspiration from the XC90 and S90, this car too gets that massive 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system which controls most of the functions in the cabin. The standard stuff includes multi-zone climate control, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, sun roof, heated steering wheel and auto dimming mirrors to name a few. It also comes loaded with driver aids like park pilot, hill start and descent assist, rain sensing wipers as well as a HUD.
This being a Volvo, it also scores heavily on the safety front with eight airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, emergency brake assist, adaptive cruise control and Volvo’s very own city-safe technology.

      Engine and gearbox
The engine powering this D5 Inscription variant of the V90 Cross Country is the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder found in the XC90 and S90, but has been tuned to produce 235bhp/480Nm of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed unit and this has been paired to a torque-on-demand AWD system.

      Price and competition
The Rs 60 lakhs price means that the V90 Cross Country ends up in an odd part of the market and has rivals across the table in terms of body style. This includes the E-Class, Audi TT, Audi A5 and the BMW X5. However, its main competition is the Mercedes-Benz GLE 250d as well as Range Rover Evoque in the HSE Dynamic trim.
