Akhilesh Yadav, the current Chief Minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh, has declared 'Tata Nano' units as the official reward for the winners at the National School Games currently being held in Etawah. Akhilesh has announced to present Nano models to the ten best athletes at the games, while his father- Mulayam Singh Yadav, the ex-CM Uttar Pradesh, has declared a Rs. 21,000 cash reward for the brilliant performers. The expensive gifts and cash rewards are part of a strategy employed by the state government, in order to promote the competitive sports among the local population.
So far, the lucky winners entitled for the big gift are athletes (runners) Chitra PU of Kerala and Anjana Thamke of Maharashtra. Further, other winners at the National School Games have been awarded with special vouchers that can be traded for bicycles. Reportedly, Akhilesh Yadav presented the cash reward of Rs. 21,000 to as many as 18 players, who set new records in their respective s events. He also bestowed international player Arti Yadav with government's appreciation and gifted a car to her as well.
Akhilesh Yadav, the young face of current Indian politics scene, has affirmed that Uttar Pradesh state government has been always ready and enthusiastic of successfully hosting national tournaments and promoting talented athletes and sports persons. Further, at the closing ceremony of the fifty eighth National School Athletics and Wrestling Tournament held in Sefai, the CM said that big talents always surface from the school-level events. He added that budding prospects are needed to be nurtured so that they can join and improve performance of the national teams participating in Asian and Olympic international competitions. Akhilesh Yadav has also declared an exorbitant sum of Rs. 1 crore as a grant for purchasing new s equipments, besides enhancing practice and gymnasium facilities for the state's budding sports persons.
