      Bajaj Auto record 2.89 per cent growth in total sales during January 2013

      Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL), the country's second largest manufacturer of motorcycles and third largest in the world, has announced its monthly sales figures for January 2013 in the domestic market. The auto maker has registered a growth of 2.35 per cent in sales of its motorcycle models at 3,01,361 units last month, as compared to 2,94,439 units sold in the year-ago period. Further, the total vehicle sales recorded by Bajaj Auto, including domestic and exports business during January 2013 stood at 3,47,624 units, a steady growth of 2.89 per cent. The company recorded total sales of 3,37,875 units in the same year-ago period.

      As per reports, Bajaj Auto witnessed a strong 9.82 per cent growth in its two-wheeler export business in January 2013. The company shipped 1,28,482 units overseas during January this year, as against 1,16,996 units exported in the same month of 2012. Coming to the three-wheeler category of vehicles, Bajaj Auto witnessed a 6.51 per cent growth as compared to last year. It sold a total of 46,263 three-wheeler units in January 2013, as against sales of 43,436 units in the year-ago period.

      Hero MotoCorp, the country's largest motorcycle manufacturer and Bajaj Auto's stiffest competitor on Indian turf, recorded its highest ever monthly sales last month. As per reports, Hero MotoCorp registered sales of 5,57,797 units in the country during January 2013, as against 5,20,272 units sold in the same year-ago period. Accordingly, Bajaj Auto has a mountain to climb, in order to comfortably challenge Hero MotoCorp in terms of total sales.
