The Porsche 911 GT3 is here and the very mention of its name has caused our jaws to drop to the floor. Mere words aren’t enough to describe and explain how this engineering beauty works. Still, we need to pull up our socks and stiffen our sinews if we are to ever attempt this tough task ahead of us, eh?
The 911 GT3 is track-focussed car and it looks its part as a pure race car. The extended aero lips under the air dam in the front, the lowered suspension with large wheels filling up the wheel wells and the huge Le-Mans-like spoiler in the back will feel at home on the Nurburgring. The twin exhausts at the centre and the air-scoops to aid engine cooling in the rear along with the sculpted bumper add to the visual drama.
Inside, it is either carbon-fibre or alcantara leather that wraps the whole cabin to give you the perfect blend of a barebones race car and a luxury supercar. The waterfall centre console houses the Porsche infotainment system while behind the steering wheel we have the classic five-pod Porsche instrument cluster. The seats are pure race buckets with four-point harnesses for the seatbelts.
Well, all of this is just to complement the high-revving, 4.0-litre, naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine – trademark Porsche. The boxer punches 540bhp of power and 540Nm of torque straight through the rear wheels. You can opt for the seven-speed PDK dual clutch automatic or GO for the purer six-speed manual gearbox to put it through the paces. The manual will take you to 100kmph in 3.9 seconds, while the automatic manages it in just 3.4. But when it comes to the top whack, the manual tops out at 320kmph, two more than the PDK.
The Porsche 911 GT3 is a direct rival to the Mercedes-AMG GT R, one of the fastest Mercedes cars around. You also have the Nissan GTR, another hell of a machine that comes in at a very similar price as the GT3. If you are looking for something with a little more chill factor, you have the surreal sounding Jaguar F-Type R or the Maserati GT.
At Rs 2.1 crores, you can also opt for comfort and luxury in the form of the Mercedes-Maybach or the BMW 760Li. In case you want brawn, there is always the Range Rover or the G-Wagon to your rescue if the Lexus LX470 is a bit too flashy. You can also opt for the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet for some luxury open air motoring and still save some cash. But none of this will make you fall back into the driving seat when you mash the throttle like a 911 GT3 would.
