      A new era of motorsports in India

      The recently held Formula One racing tournament at Buddha racing Tracks located in Grater Noida is seems to have given the Indian motorsports a new breath of life. Just a few weeks after this tournament, the leading Japanese car makers like Toyota and Nissan have already shown their interest in entering into the Indian Motorsports racing through their racing arms like TRD (Toyota Racing Development) and NISMO (Nissan International Motorsports Co).

      But the buzz doesn’t stops here as a number of niche car maker in the country are gearing-up to capitalize on the rising popularity of the motorsports and increasing number of motorsports lovers.

       

      New Era of  Motorsports
       

      For instance, Coimbatore based Jayem Automotive, in now looking forward to tie-up with Dallara of Italy (racing car maker) to make sports cars along with a number of motor racing formulas. Jayem Automotive has been operating in the field of motorsports for more than a decade now. The company has been organizing rallies and racing tournaments.

      Working on the same lines, Chinkara Motors has a two-seater roadster in its India portfolio, which is based on Lotus Super 7 and carries a price tag of Rs 26 lakh. The roadster has a minimum waiting period of 5-6 months.

      One more domestic automaker that is worth mentioning here is San Motors, a Goa based auto maker that has been manufacturing two-seater sports convertibles for more than a decade now. The 1.6L sports convertible hasn’t been driving volumes with the monthly sales of just 2 to 3 units. The company sources engines for its cars from Renault. San Motors is planning to develop improved convertible models with more power and more efficient aerodynamics.
