A group of four engineering students in Bangalore have developed a diesel run bike that offers an unbelievable fuel economy of 110 kmpl. The students are from M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology.

The newly developed diesel-run two-wheeler carries an automatic gear box along with auto clutch. The idea was to develop a highly fuel efficient bike that can be of a great help to the common man, struggling with continuously rising fuel prices.

Under the guidance of their project guide Dr. S V Prakash, the students including Naveen V V, Tony Paul, Nadeem Anwar and Sanjay Bhushan, spent four months on the project while working with a number of workshops in Bangalore and Coimbatore. The major alteration they did in a 350cc engine include reducing its volume to 200CC, reducing the weight of fly-wheel to 7kg, and reducing the power to 3.5 hp from 6.5 hp.

According to Nadeem Anwar, a member of the team, they have spent a total of almost Rs 72,000 on the production of this prototype and with mass production; the cost would be around 55 to 60 thousand."According to the students' project guide Dr. S V Prakash, the country’s leading engineering and construction conglomerate 'Kirloskar Group' has shown interest in the technology and has offered to further assist in the project.
