Toyota Fortuner seems to spell an actual fortune for Toyota. Toyota has already received 5000 bookings for the model within one month of its launch making it a runaway success story. It seems Toyota is here to rule the SUV segment with Innova already being a very popular model in the country. Toyota Fortuner is also an extremely popular SUV in the international market. It has already sold sold over 2,50,000 units globally in more than 60 countries since its launch in 2005.
Toyota intends to step up its monthly production from 500 units to 600 units owing to the high demand from the market. It has also stepped up its sells target to 2500 units in 2009 as against initially planned 2000 units. Toyota dealers are not taking any advance payment for the booking and are indicating a tentative delivery date to them.
After the successful launch of an SUV, now Toyota aims at the most popular segment in India – the compact car segment. "The company is planning to launch its compact car by end-2010 or early-2011. The installed capacity of the unit would be 70,000 units per annum and will be manufactured in India," a company spokesperson said.
