      Electrotherm India plans to launch 100cc bike in India. It is encouraged by the sales of Electric vehicle, Yo Speed, in India. Rising fuel prices has escalated the demand for electric vehicles in India when consumers have started to opt for cheaper and alternative fuel options for their daily commutation.

      Yo Speed, is the 75cc electric bike that already marks its presence in India. 20,000 units of EV were sold last year out of which 10,000 units were of Yo Speed only. This year company plans to sell nearly 60,000 units of in the current fiscal year. The market had stagnated in 2007-08 with sales dropping to 1200 per month in March April 2008. However, the changing economic conditions and rising fuel prices have boosted sales to the tune of 2500 vehicles per month in June-July 2008.

      “We always prefer to modify existing models. Our research and development team keeps updating the technology. The success of the 75 cc model has encouraged us to enter the higher segment,” Avinash Bhandari, director, Electrotherm India, said. “Customers have accepted electric vehicle technology. Moreover, over the past year, the number of market players has also increased, indicating that e-bikes will play an important role in the automotive industry in the years to come,” he added.
