The Hyundai Verna Diesel is a car well suited for a city ride. The car carries improved styling from Hyundai Accent and lives up to international standards. It has one of the best fitted interiors and fuel efficiency in its segment.
In the Verna, Hyundai has placed the car to the Accent, as Ford has attempted with Ikon and Fiesta. Hyundai has decided to keep Accent on roads and yet roll out another model Verna for the Indian auto consumers.
The Power Train
Hyundai Verna features a 1.5-litre, 16-valve diesel with a CRDi burner, and a 1.6-litre petrol featuring VTVT - Variable Timing Valve Train technology. The diesel model comes in two variants - CRDi VGT and CRDi VGT SX. The diesel model has a 1.5L engine with CRDi and Variable Geometry Turbocharger. It gears up enough power for the car, well suited to the size of the car. It clocks power of 110 bhp and 24kgm of torque at 2750 rpm. Hyundai has also introduced Automatic transmission in VGT SX variant making it the first diesel A/T in its segment. The new Verna diesel model delivers the economy of a diesel model and convenience of automatic transmission in one package.
The variable geometry enables the engine to deliver smooth and virtually lag-free power. The diesel model is capable of cruising at 120 kmph with less than 2500 revs. During our testdrive, we noted that the car powers its way through corners effortlessly giving the driving a more integrated feel. The steering too is accurate.
Design and Style
Hyundai Verna CRDi model has international styling which gives a pleasing look to the eye. It has quite spacious interiors which are attractive to the eye even though it carries a plastic finish. It also features a strong and rigid body that very well complements its interiors and their luxury. It has a broad shoulder line and a flowing windscreen giving an impression of space. The tiltable power steering gives maneuverability and easier handling of the car.
Some of the other features of the car are the body colour handle, rear view mirrors, power windows, clutch foot rest, rear door map, 60:40 split fold seating, anti-lock braking system, rear disc brakes, etc. The car boasts of a good seating arrangement and storage space offering more convenience and comfort. The bigger front disc and booster size means safer and faster braking.
The car delivers good fuel efficiency good power. In our view, the Verna is leading the category of Ford Fiesta and Maruti SX4. Verna comes in 6 colours to choose from: Blushing Red, Stone Black, Crystal White, Champagne Gold, Sleek Silver & Deep Ocean Blue.
