Long wait for the much-awaited Yamaha YZF-R3 has finally come to an end as the company today launched it at Rs. 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new motorcycle can be bought in two paint schemes - red & black and blue & white. First unveiled at the 2014 EICMA Motorcycle Show, the Yamaha YZF-R3 will compete against the KTM RC40, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and others in the league. Yamaha will import the R3 from Indonesia as CKD (completely built up) unit and then assemble it locally at its Greater Noida plant.
Powering the Yamaha YZF R3 is a 320cc twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine that puts out a maximum power of 41bhp at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. Paired with a 6-speed transmission, this power mill helps the bike accelerate 0-60kmph in 2.89 seconds and 0-100kmph in 6 seconds. This R3 can attain a top speed of 187kmph. It measures 2,090mm in length, 720mm in width and 1,135mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 1,380mm.
Yamaha YZF R3
Yamaha claims that the YZF R3 is equipped with racing-derived features such as low-friction pistons, carburized conrods, direct drive camshaft and forged pistons. The bike shares some design cues with the Yamaha YZF-R Series. It sports dual headlights, silencer, a digital analogue console and other styling elements. It offers comfortable ride on all sorts of Indian terrains, thanks to the high ground clearance (160mm) and 17-inches, 10-spoke alloy wheels with 110/ 70 front and 140/ 70 rear rubber tyres.
The diamond-type frame with telescopic forks up front and monoshock rear suspension system further aids to its handling and ride quality. The YZF R3 also comes equipped with 298mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes, and an optional anti-lock braking system (ABS). It has a fuel tank capacity of 14–liters.
