      Yamaha India's annual sales increase by 31.6 per cent in 2011

      India Yamaha Motor continued to grow in the domestic year in the 2011 due to the continually increasing demand of its FZ and SZ series of bikes in the country. The manufacturer was successful in selling 4,60,815 units this year in comparison with the 3,50,274 it rolled out in 2010, recording overall growth of 31.6 per cent year-on-year.

      The Indian subsidiary of Yamaha recorded sales of 44,976 vehicles in December 2011 against 34,839 units in the same month the previous year, clocking growth in volumes by 29.1 per cent. In India, its sales figure went up by 25.3 per cent due to the sale of 33,290 units in December 2011, as compared to 26,567 vehicles it sold in December 2010. On the other hand, the export volumes grew by 41.3 per cent, riding on the sales of 11,686 units in December 2011 versus the 8,272 motorcycles it shipped abroad in the same month in 2010.

      Talking about the astounding results, Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO and Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., commented, “The year 2011 has indeed been an exceptional year for us as we were able to maintain consistency in our overall growth and the results speak for themselves. Our untiring efforts to rev up sales backed by innovative marketing strategies and an impeccable product portfolio across segments have borne much fruit. Our efforts towards enhancing our relationship with our esteemed customers through various initiatives like the Yamaha Safe Riding Science, the R15 One Make Race Championships and the Sales & Service camps have also been very rewarding. We are buoyant about the future and are looking forward to replicate and further improve upon this achievement in 2012 as well.”

      Yamaha strengthened its position in the premium segment of Indian market in 2011 by introducing R15 Version 2.0, the upgraded model of the company's erstwhile flagship R15 that made its debut in 2008. In order to gain a better foothold in the Indian market, the company has planned to bolster its production volumes to 1 million units in 2012. Moreover, it also aims to focus upon product development and network expansion.

      Yamaha ventured into India in the year 1985 and incorporated Yamaha India as a 100 per cent subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd, Japan (YMC) in August 2001. Mitsui & Co. Ltd. signed an agreement to invest jointly with YMC in the thermocycle production firm "India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM)" in the year 2008. The production units of IYM are located in Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh and Faridabad in Haryana, where the company manufactures motorcycles for Indian as well as foreign markets. The automobile manufacturer is supported by over 2,000 employees and has a network of more than 400 dealerships based in India.

      Currently, it offers VMAX (1,679cc), MT01 (1,670cc), YZF-R1 (998cc), FZ1 (998cc), Fazer (153cc), FZ-S (153cc), FZ (153cc), SZ, SZ-X & SZ-R (153cc), YZF-R15 Ver 2.0 (150cc), SS125 (123cc), YBR 125 (123cc), YBR 110 (106cc) and Crux (106cc) in the country.
