The largest European car maker Volkswagen is speculated to soon launch its popular two-seater UP! model in the Indian market. According to recent media reports, the new UP! model is likely to be rolled-out in the price segment sub Rs 4 lakh, and it is said to be launched by the end of this year. However, the company hasn’t made any official statement in this regard, so far.
The Volkswagen UP! was showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Expo in year 2007, where it had grabbed attention of a large number of car enthusiasts and visitors.
The launch of UP! model will not only drive volume sales for Volkswagen in the rapidly growing Indian market, but will also strengthen its product portfolio in the country. If launched, the UP! model will be competing with the likes of Maruti Wagon R, A-Star, Zen Estillo, Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10.
At present, the Polo hatchback is the cheapest car model in India portfolio of Volkswagen which is available in the price segment of Rs 4,57,000 - Rs 7,06,200 (Delhi ex-showroom). Besides Polo, the company sells a range of cars in the Indian market including mid-size sedan Volkswagen Vento, premium sedan Volkswagen Jetta and Passat.
