European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), the international consumer protection organisation, has awarded Volkswagen Up and the new generation Beetle with five star ratings. The high ratings were awarded to the cars as they turned out to be an overall package focussing immensely on passenger, child and pedestrian security and the safety assistance systems.
Moreover, apart from the best rating, Volkswagen Up was also awarded the Euro NCAP's Advanced Award owing to its inventive City Emergency Braking function. With five-star rating and the Advanced Award, the model races ahead of other cars from its class. Therefore, in terms of superior safety package, Volkswagen Up is certified as 'best in class'.
The optional City Emergency Braking function in compact model automatically activates at speeds ranging from 5 to 30 kmpl. Moreover, the function has a laser sensor, which is integrated in the upper part of the windscreen that scans the area of around 10 metres ahead for detecting the risk of collision.
For passenger protection, both Volkswagen models achieved high appraise for all seat positions regardless of size of the front passenger and driver. The models garnered top ratings after frontal and side impact tests, a pole side impact test and a whiplash test, which evaluates loads to the cervical spine of the neck. In addition, both Volkswagen compact models obtained impeccable child safety results.
In the safety equipment section, Volkswagen Up and Beetle delivered impressively with features like seatbelts reminders for all seats, vehicle dynamic control system and more.
The German automobile company promises great levels of safety with models like Golf, Jetta, Passat, Polo, Scirocco and Tiguan and more recently the Volkswagen Up and Beetle. Thus, with advanced safety package Volkswagen has proven to be a pioneer car brand that pays immense heed to vehicle safety.
