Volkswagen India has discontinued the highly acclaimed Polo GT range in both TSI and TDI versions. Local dealers across the metros including Mumbai have stopped taking further bookings for the cars as VW has seized production. The existing stock for the cars has already sold out, and the company has not allotted new models for further bookings.
Volkswagen India will launch the 2014 Polo facelift in July, 2014, and it is also speculated that the company will also introduce the GT range in new avatar. VW is also planning to tune the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine to return multiple outputs to counter the likes of Ford EcoBoost and the Tata Revotron engine family.
Under the hood, the current Polo GT TSI has a 1.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol mill that churns out a maximum power output of 104PS and a peak torque of 170Nm. This engine is paired to a seven-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox which sends the power to front wheels of the hatchback. The Polo GT TDI is powered by the 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. This engine produces 103PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque..
