Volkswagen, the German premium car manufacturer has finally introduced the 2015 VW Jetta facelift in the Indian car market. The updated Jetta gets slightly tweaked exteriors and interiors. The exteriors of the sedan get new front fascia with new triple slat grille, LED headlamps, new fog lamp enclosure and new bumper. Other changes include new tail lights, integrated spoiler and new boot-lid. Inside, the sedan gets new multi-functional steering wheel, new seat covers, etc. The 2015 VW Jetta will rival against the likes of Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla Altis. Dimensions
Dimensionally, the new VW Jetta remains unchanged. The sedan is 4644mm long, 1778mm wide, 1453mm high and a large wheelbase of 2633mm. Chevrolet Cruze sedan is one of the best sedans available in our market. Dimensionally, the sedan is 4597mm long, 1788mm wide, 1477mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2685mm. On the other hand, the Corolla Altis is 4620mm long, 1775mm wide, 1475mm high, and has a large wheelbase of 2700mm.
Engine Specifications
While the Volkswagen Jetta and Toyota Corolla Altis are available in both petrol and diesel guise, the Chevrolet Cruze is only offered with diesel engine. The Cruze is powered by a 2.0-litre unit that churns out a maximum power output of 164bhp at 3800rpm and a peak torque of 380Nm at 2000rpm. Both manual and automatic transmission options are on offer. While the manual version delivers 17.3kmpl of mileage, the automatic model returns 14.81kmpl of fuel efficiency.
The VW Jetta petrol is propelled by a 1.4L TSI unit that develops 120bhp and 200Nm of torque, while the oil burner is the 2.0-litre TDI unit that churns out 138bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Both the six-speed manual and twin-clutch DSG automatic gearbox will be on offer.
The Toyota Corolla Altis petrol is propelled by a 1.8-litre 2ZR-FE, 4-cylinder engine that is good for 138bhp of power and 173Nm of top torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The oil burner is the 1.4-litre D-4D unit that produces 87bhp of power and 205Nm of torque.
Price
The new 2015 VW Jetta sedan is priced very aggressively in the market. The base variant of the sedan is priced at Rs. 14.15 lakh, while the top-end model cost Rs. 20.17 lakh. The entry level Chevrolet Cruze LT is priced at Rs. 14.37 lakh, while the top spec LTZ AT is tagged at Rs. 16.96 lakh.
