The impact of media can never be undermined in India when it comes to popularising any industry. And when it comes to cars, it is tabloids, magazines and news channels that play a part in making them famous. Having a prominent journalist as a part of your team is something that every car company would want to have. Volkswagen, the German car maker, took a strong step in this direction by appointing famous journalist Sameer Kumar as the Head for Press Communications in India. Kumar has been a part of the Indian automobile media fraternity for a number of years now. Prior to joining Volkswagen Cars, Sameer Kumar was working with the Buddh International Circuit as the National Press Officer and was an integral part during the organising of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.

According to sources who have been in the media for years, Sameer Kumar is an exceptional journalist with a flamboyant writing style. Fondly known as MadMax to people who were a part of his life during his journalism days, Kumar has been associated with some big names in the industry. One of the most prominent publications he has worked with is Business Standard Motoring, an entity known for its high quality journalism. Apart from Business Standard Motoring, Kumar has worked with magazines likes Cars India and Bike India. In these publications, Sameer Kumar played the role of an executive editor and according to sources at these organisations, he was integral to the overall progress made by them. The repertoire of Kumar is not just limited to his associations with these tabloids as he also runs a super bike blog called FasterandFaster.net. Industry experts consider this blog to be one of the best on the Internet to know about bikes in the international market for two wheelers.

In a recent interaction, a colleague spoke about the benefits of working under Kumar. The person, who worked with Sameer Kumar at Car India and Bike India, said that he got a lot to learn under him. Colleagues of Kumar have expressed their joy about this development and feel that he would handle such a prestigious portfolio quite efficiently. Officials at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, in interviews, spoke about the prospect of working with Sameer Kumar. “We are pleased to have Sameer on board and we are sure he will be able to contribute towards further strengthening the Volkswagen brand in India,” said Arvind Saxena, who is the Managing Director at Volkswagen Passengers Cars.

Volkswagen is relatively new in the Indian car market and is steadily gaining prominence. Till now, Volkswagen has launched cars like Passat, Jetta, Polo and Cross Polo in the Indian auto market. Out of these, the Polo hatchback has managed to generate good responses from both, critics and buyers. An acclaimed brand on the international circuit, Volkswagen has a reputation for producing cars that are stylish, comfortable and technologically advanced. However, for any auto maker to make an impact in the Indian car market, a strategically thought marketing and advertising campaign is required to be successful. One of the most relevant example of good branding policies is Hyundai, a company that has risen to become the country's second largest passenger car maker. Analysts feel the the appointment of Sameer Kumar will certainly boost the prospects of Volkswagen in the Indian car market.
