      Volkswagen India plans foray in compact sedan and SUV segment

      In a bid to increase its market share in India, local arm of German auto giant, Volkswagen has structured a new plan for domestic market. Volkswagen forayed into domestic market seven year ago in 2007 and acquired market share of 3 per cent within few years. However the company currently holds almost 2 per cent of market share. Under its new plan the company eyes bringing new cars in India including and overhauling its current range. Among new vehicles being contemplated for India a compact sedan and a compact SUV are included. From its current range, Polo and Vento are the most popular vehicles in domestic market chipping in majority sales every month. Hence, the company will continue to focus on these two vehicles. The sub-compact sedan is being developed under the codename ICS, while there are currently no details on the compact SUV.

      Officials at Volkswagen have confirmed that the company does not wish to venture into the inexpensive car segment and will continue to offer vehicles well equipped with advanced technology. The idea is to further strengthen the brand’s image in the eyes’ of Indian customers.
