MapMyIndia has introduced a navigation unit, called the MapMyIndia Light. The unit is not only for “in-car” usage, but which can be also be used while walking around. It has been tested successfully in New Delhi and is capable of figuring out routes all the way up to Bhubneshwar and Vizag. Equipped with a database of more than 400 cities in India, the gadget can be used to explore even obscure routes in the countryside. It connects with over 4,10,000 towns and villages, and identifies 9,45,000 points of interest.

The pocket device, which is described as “sleek, trendy and stylish”, has been priced at Rs. 11,990. In comparison to other devices in the market, this product seems to offer value for money as it is relatively cheaper and has a database of cities that is almost double the size of those such as in the SatGuide Moov 300.

Ideally, the device eliminates the headaches of pestering pedestrians for directions or having to log onto the internet and printing them each time. Moreover, you can also access “point of interest” from any location. This makes hunting down petrol pumps, ATM’s, restaurants, etc. a lot simpler. The Navigator device has won the “Geospatial Product of the Year 2008” award and enables traveling confidently.
