Auto industry in India posted robust sales in the month of April across the board, including the two-wheeler sales. Apart from Hero Honda which reported flat sales, almost all other two-wheeler manufacturers reported double digit growth in the country. The sales growth was backed by strong demand supported by attractive borrowing rates.

In the two wheeler space TVS Motor registered 22% sales volume growth to 1.25 lakh units backed by new product launches. The company’s motorcycle sales grew 24% to 66,000 units, while its scooter sales moved up 43% to 26,860 units. Sales were nearly flat at Hero Honda Motors Ltd, mainly due to strike in Exide Batteries Ltd factory, which constrained two-wheeler despatches. It posted 10% lower sales on a month-on-month basis.

According to a statement from Yamaha Motors in India, it reported 42.01 per cent increase in its total sales in April at 24,960 units. The company had sold 17,576 units in the same month last year. "Our product line-up and improving consumer sentiments amid a pick-up in overall economic activity have helped us grow our sales consistently in domestic as well as export markets," India Yamaha Motor Director and Chief Sales Officer Koji Arai said.

Bajaj Auto's total two-and three-wheeler sales in April, including exports, were the highest-ever at 313,472 units, compared to the 169,119 units in April last year, a growth of 85%.
