Volkswagen is developing a new electric scooter “Bik.e” that can be easily folded and kept in car’s boot. The new electric scooter can be charged with car’s battery while on the move. It has a top-speed of 20 kmph and range of 20 km when full-charged. The new electric scooter has been introduced as a new concept from Volkswagen which may not replace everyday commuting but will come in handy to people who hit the urban traffic snarls everyday to work.

The new electric scooter can be a good option for people to park their cars long distance from their work place and can commute to small distance to work without getting frustrated in heavy traffic jams everyday. It is also expected to come in handy for people for commuting to and fro from the station.

"We think far beyond the car, as such, with a focus on mobility in general" VW senior manager Hackenberg said. "And we do this regularly in concept teams made up of specialists with a mission to look into the future and give up existing conventions, which means finding new, unconventional solutions".

The e-scooter also has a spare wheel in case of emergency. It can be easily packed in the boot without occupying any additional space. Honda has also launched a City hatch based on similar concept and has showcased the concept model at the international auto shows. The concept is likely to make it to production, said Volkswagen's head of research and development, Ulrich Hackenberg, during a press conference at the Beijing motor show.
