Showing some signs of growth, local arm of Japanese auto maker, ToyotaKirloskarMotor (TKM) witnessed growth of 6 per cent in the month of May, 2014. Toyota India sold a total of 13,230 units last month as against 12,502 units sold in the same time corresponding year. The segregate sales for domestic and export front indicates thatTKMposted growth of 18 per cent in domestic market by selling 11,833 units last month and exported 1.397 units ofEtiossedan andEtiosLiva hatchback to overseas markets.
Looking more closely at the domestic sales, the number of vehicles sold last month stands at 11,833 units as compared to 10,023 units sold in May 2013. The company inducted a new vehicle,EtiosCross crossover in the beginning of last month and also launchedfaceliftedCorollaAltistowards the end of last month. Hence the slight bump in sales could be due to the introduction of newEtiosCross and new CorollaAltispremium sedan, bookings for which began a while ago.
Commenting on the May sales, Mr. NRaja, Director and Senior Vice - President, Sales and Marketingsaid“We have resumed normalcy in production and have registered growth in May. We launchedEtiosCross and the All New CorollaAltis, last month. We have received a very good response for the new launches and would like to thank the customers for their appreciation. We started dispatching the new models, in May. We registered sales of 555 units & 548 units ofEtiosCross and CorollaAltis, respectively.”
