One of the most popular Japanese manufacturers of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, Terra Motors, has recently brought to limelight with the all-new R6 three-wheeler. The vehicle has been thoroughly tested under Indian conditions. An interesting aspect is that the new vehicle can do a maximum of 100 kilometres, when fully charged. The founder and CEO of Terra Motors, Toru Tokushige, has mentioned that R6 has undergone several tests by a certified agency. Unlike Chinese manufactured e-rickshaws, the R6 has undergone homologation. As per the targets fixed by the Japanese manufacturer, it looks forward to sell 10000 units of these e-rickshaws by the end of the year 2015.

Tokushige added that nearly two to three products are under the development stage and will be quite comparatively priced. R6 is set to be one of the prime models among these models. According to the reports of the company, R6 is set to be 2950 mm in length, 1090 mm in width and approximately 1800 mm in height. The total passenger capacity of this vehicle is seven including the driver. The maximum attainable speed of this vehicle is 30 kilometres per hour. It takes around seven hours for the battery to get fully charged from zero battery, while 80 per cent of the battery gets charged within the first two or three hours. It has a minimum turning radius of 3.2 metres, which is why it is quite easy to manoeuvre. It has a reverse gear and has been provided with rain covers.

Terra Motors has promised quite a number of things with this product and if R6 is capable of all that, it should become an important vehicle on Indian roads. Undoubtedly, with more awareness towards road safety, such vehicles might find a good market in the country.
