      Team of St. Columbas School wins gold at SAE International AWIM Jet toy Olympics

      Competing with 125 teams from throughout the world, students of St. Columba’s School, New Delhi formed a new history at the SAE International AWIM (A World in Motion) Jet Toy Olympics in the category of Maximum Time by winning a Gold medal. The event was held on 25th April 2012 at Detroit, Michigan USA, where the winners of SAEINDIA National AWIM Olympic made the country feel proud.

      Felicitating students on their win, I.V. Rao, Managing Executive Officer (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki and Chairman, SAE Northern India Section, said, “The students from St. Columba’s, New Delhi have made India proud by becoming the only Indian team ever in the history of SAE International Jet Toy initiative to win a Gold medal. We hope that the SAE initiatives like the AWIM will help bring in a scientific mindset amongst the young Indians. My heartiest congratulations to the students and their school and parents on this success.”

      Maruti Suzuki encourages the student level initiatives of SAE, such as Supra SAEINDIA, AWIM and Efficycle, which look after the innovation amid students. The students of 6th standard Paanshul Jarrel, Ankit Sharma, Bhavishya Bhatt and Kshitij Malik as well as their trainer Ms. Rita Monterio of St. Columba’s School were sustained by passionate escorts, Shikha Malik of IGIT- New Delhi and K.V. Sunil of Maruti Suzuki, who showed their dedication, devotion and passion, thus won the god medal.

      Keen and bright students of this school also grabbed 4th position in all. The dedicated team of St. Columba’s School qualified for the International Jet Toy Olympics after setting their win over 25 skilled teams at the SAEINDIA National Olympics, participating from all over the country. This event was scheduled in New Delhi during November 2011. In India, AWIM is promoted as SAEINDIA and is encouraged by the big industry players, such as Maruti Suzuki.

      A World In Motion (AWIM) is an international name for SAE, which is a teacher administered initiative that volunteers industry supported event bringing effectiveness of technology, science, engineering and math (STEM) to life through the classroom of students. This is done in Kindergarten up to class 12. This program includes activities that has set benchmark in national standards and holds the laws of motion, physics, flight and electronics, as per the age of students. The support from industry players is a key requirement as the companies and their workers approaches with innovative ideas towards youth and prepares them to sponsor education centres in their communities in near future.

      On the other hand, SAEINDIA is a not-for profit organization of automotive engineers, which stands in front to broadcast and recognize appropriate expertise mainly to stakeholders and towards society, in general. This program is accredited to the parent organization SAE International, headquartered in USA, which has a magnificent proof of serving more than 100 years to the mobility category.

      Globally, SAE has over 121,000 members, which includes business executives, engineers, educators as well as students from over 97 countries, wherein they share knowledge and swap information, which adds to the technology of engineering of mobility community. SAE is a foremost source for events, development of standards and technological information as well as know-how useful in designing, building, maintaining and operating self-driven vehicles, which are used for sea, land and air.
