The demand patterns of Indian car buyers have undergone several changes in the recent past, especially the last two years. One indication of the same is the progress of new segments and models. The success of Honda Amaze has triggered the launch of new compact sedans in the country. Hyundai Xcent has done really well since its entry in the Indian market and is now being given good competition by Tata Zest. Not only this, the automatic versions of both models are expected to do well. Let’s take a look at how these two rack up against each other.

Hyundai Xcent, based on the highly successful Grand i10, features a sporty design with attractive headlights. Chrome grille, turn indicators, sporty waistline moulding, micro roof antenna and chrome door handles are the other highlights of this compact sedan. Interiors, on the other hand, are simply designed but really useful. Push button start, seat back pockets, cooled glove box and floor console storage ensure that the passengers get complete convenience. Mechanically, the automatic version of Xcent compact sedan features a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum power level of around 82 BHP.

Tata Zest, recently launched, has a stylish design, which is quite unlike most models from the manufacturer. A bold grille, projector headlamps with LED light guide rings and wrap around tail-lights form the exteriors of this car. Comfort is one of the USP's of Tata Zest as it has best-in-class air-conditioning, interior space, signature steering wheel and spacious cabin. The automatic version of Tata Zest is powered by a turbocharged VGT diesel engine that displaces 1248 cc. It delivers a maximum power level of 89 BHP and maximum torque of 200 Nm.

Hyundai Xcent’s automatic version has been doing well in the market, which is why, at the moment, it would be difficult for Tata Zest to make an instant impact. However, given the features the Tata Motors’ sedan has, there is a lot of scope for the model to perform well.
