The GenX Nano has been the newest variant of affordable small car from Tata Motors. Launched earlier this year, the new model came with new age style and an automated manual transmission (AMT) unit. As more and more customers have been showing keen interest for AMT variant and waiting period running to months, the company has been planning on producing the AMT unit locally and is expected to be rolled out in 2016 models.

Speaking more on the occasion to Deccan Herald, Mr. Girish Wagh, the Senior Vice President of Programme Planning and Project Management at Tata Motors said, “We are looking to localise the kit and it should happen during the next calendar year.” Currently, Magnetic Marelli supplies the AMT unit on new GenX Nano. He further added that AMT variant commands about 40 per cent of total bookings and localization could indeed make things easier.

The new GenX Nano comes with the same tried and tested 624cc, two-cylinder MPFI petrol engine that generates about 38bhp of power and 51Nm of torque. In terms of upgrade, the new AMT gearbox is offered in 5-speed unit. The company has offered a new cylinder head and aluminium block that makes it smoother than the older generation.
