The Indian auto market witnessed one of the most publicized online auctions till date on Tuesday when a Volkswagen Passat sedan was sold for over Rs 30 lakh on eBay India. The car is embellished with the signatures of all T20 cricket teams. The proceeds from the auction of this car will be given to WWF India, an organization that is into wildlife and nature conservation.
The company said in a statement on Monday that the Signature T20 Volkswagen Passat was bought by Saidas Malladi, a cricket enthusiast fro Bangalore. The bidder will also receive a bat autographed by all the captains of T20 teams. The auction was of the duration of 10 days and it ended on 10th of May.
Excited with the auction, the company stated, "The Volkswagen Passat auction has surpassed the previous milestones of the Rakesh Jhunjhunwala charity auction, Coaching Camp with Sachin Tendulkar and Lunch with Amitabh Bachchan, with highest bid records at Rs 14.02 lakh, Rs 12 lakh and Rs 10.02 lakh, respectively."
As per eBay India Senior Manager (Pop Culture) Deepa Thomas, all of the most expensive auctions of the year 2009, 2010 and 2011 have been charity auctions.
