Suzuki Motors Corp has launched the latest model of Alto in Tokyo. SMC Chairman and CEO, Osamu Suzuki, unveiled the 660cc model of Alto which is a sister car of Mazda Carol. It is the seventh generation model of Alto and SMC claims fuel efficiency of 24.5 kmpl owing to its light body weight and continuously variable transmission with auxiliary transmission. Suzuki expects to clock minimum 7,000 units monthly sales of the new model of Alto in Japan. More details of the new Alto launched are not available so far.
Mazda also launched new Carol model with 660cc VVT engine that gives 15 percent more fuel economy than its predecessor. Japan has launched eco-car incentive program and new Carol qualifies for 50-75 percent tax rebate on the car. This makes the car quite cheap and affordable apart from giving the best ride for the urban traffic. Mazda Carol is the same car that was shown as “Alto Concept Car” at the recent Tokyo Auto Show.
Suzuki is also planning to launch a new Wagon R in 2010 in the overseas market. The new Wagon R will be available in China with 1.4L engine with a longer wheelbase at 2360mm, making it 25mm longer than the current model. The model will be same as the Japanese model but Suzuki has not revealed its prices so far.
Both the models (in older trim) are also sold in India and are being produced at the MSIL Gurgaon factory.
