Rumours have emerged that Skoda is planning to introduce yet another small hatchback or an entry level sedan in the Indian market. It is currently developing a new car under the code name “SK215” which is said to be available in the country by end 2011. Skoda India has already hinted that it will introduce a new sedan in India that will be placed below Octavia. The SK215 will be based on the Fabia platform and may pose competition to the Volkswagen Vento, the Honda City, the Fiat Linea and the Hyundai Verna.

The new model is expected to be powered by 1.6-litre petrol mill from the Volkswagen engine stable, and probably even the 1.6-litre TD CR engine recently introduced on the VW Vento. The price of the car is expected to be between 8-10 lakhs. Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, Skoda India, said that in the coming years, Skoda will be back on the front row with strategic planning in order to gain some market share in India.

Launching more cars in different segments is the new strategy applied by Skoda India. The Volkswagen owned car manufacturer just launched the new Skoda Fabia earlier last month and is gearing up for the launch of their mini SUV, Yeti this month.
