      Skoda gears-up to boost sales in India with new small car Citigo

      The Czech Republic based premium car maker Skoda, which is fully owned subsidiary of Volkswagen, is all set to mark its debut in the lower-end compact hatchback segment with the launch of new small car – Skoda Citigo.

      The Skoda Citigo was earlier expected to be developed for the European markets only, but with the rising demand of compact hatchback in India, the company has decided to roll it out in mass segment soon. The Citigo model will be positioned below the premium hatchback Fabia, which has been failing to drive in volume sales for the for the car maker.

      In a recent statement given to TOI in Mumbai, Skoda Auto global chairman Winfried Vahland said, "The Citigo, which is mainly a small car for Europe, also has a potential in a market like India." He added that the company is very optimistic on the Indian market and expect growth rates between 10% and 20% in the coming years.

      The Citigo model will enter the Indian market next year and is expected to be priced in the segment of Rs 4 to 5 lakh, where it will be taking on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, A-Star, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Toyota Etios Liva and Honda Brio.

      The launch of new Skoda Citigo will not only strengthen company’s position in the compact hatchback segment but will also enhance the market reach of brand Skoda.
