      Sedan Faceoff: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz vs Volkswagen Vento

      One of the hottest and ever-growing segments in the Indian automobile market is that of sedans. Maruti Suzuki launched its new brand new sedan, Ciaz, a few months ago to get a hold in the segment, which was initially dominated by Honda City and Volkswagen Vento. So today, we’ll be comparing two rivals, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento on different aspects. Interestingly, Ciaz is the larger of two cars, when talking about the size. It measures 4,490 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height and comes with a 'largest-in-segment' wheelbase of 2,650 mm. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Vento has a length of 4,384 mm, width of 1,699 mm, height of 1,466 mm and a wheelbase of 2,552 mm.

      Looking at the engine, Volkswagen comes on top, both in power and features. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol version is powered by a 1.4-litre k-series 1372 cc engine that produces a power of 91 bhp and a torque of 130 Nm. While the diesel variant comes with a 1248 cc engine that produces 89 bhp of power and 200 Nm torque. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Vento comes in two petrol and one diesel variant. The petrol version has an option of either a 1.2-litre TSI 1197 cc engine that produces 103 bhp of power and 175 Nm of torque (automatic 7-speed transmission), or a 1.6-litre 1598 cc engine that churns out 103 bhp and 153 Nm. Moreover, the diesel version comes equipped with a 1.6-litre 1598 cc engine that produces a maximum power of 103 bhp with a peak torque of 250 Nm.

      Coming to other features of both the sedans, Ciaz sports projector headlamps, electrically foldable wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators, automatic climate control, keyless entry, rear AC vents, rear parking sensors and push-button start in its top-end variant. Alloy wheels are also offered as an option, though only in the Z and Z+ variants. The Volkswagen Vento comes equipped with power windows, climate control, rear air-con vents, power steering, centre armrest and a plethora of other features.

      At the pricing level, Ciaz petrol can be purchased for Rs. 6.99 lakh, whereas the top-end version is offered for Rs 9.34 lakh. For the diesel variant, one needs to shelve Rs. 8.04 lakh for the base variant and Rs. 9.80 lakh for the high-end version. The petrol model of Volkswagen Vento starts from Rs 7.44 lakh till Rs. 9.92 lakh, while its diesel counterpart is priced from Rs. 8.57 lakh to Rs. 10.94 lakh.
