The company's two best riders, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo lost the last two championships to the HRC’s driver Marc Marquez, the year old driver who won 10 straight races at the start of the 2014 season.

The bike was revealed at the Telefónica company headquarters in Madrid. Yamaha team and the Spanish company Telefónica have been in the partnership from 2014 and this year also, the partnership continues between the two. Kouichi Tsuji, group leader Yamaha racing, told the media that they finished on the podium 10 times and out of those 10 times, 8 times the difference was more than 2 seconds. He further added that winning by 2 seconds in a 120 km long race was only possible due to the hard work done by his team in the development room.
