Rolls-Royce is mulling over to induct a hybrid mill across its range. The company has taken this decision owing to the stern emission and fuel efficiency regulations which are likely to get even stiffer with time. Rolls Royce believes that it would become inevitable for them to adapt the hybrid technology in future in order to keep using the 12-cylinderpowertrainsin their vehicles. The parent company of Rolls Royce, BMW is already developing the plug-in hybrid technology for its X5eDrive. However, with BMW working on the plug-in hybrid technology, Rolls Royce might also get benefited with that and accommodate the electric motor along with the 12-cylinder engine in its vehicles. The British car marquee is now sustaining business on its own, however for developing a technology like this, a lot of capital needs to be invested which the company cannot carry out on its own and hence needs technological support from BMW.

Rolls-Royce created a prototype 102EX using electric technology which was put on display for customers across the globe. The main objective to put the car on display was to get feedback from the customers, however, to company’s disappointment; the prototype did not get good response from customers due to the long time taken for recharging. Rolls-Royce therefore dropped the plan of converting 102EX prototype into reality.Such problems can easily be worked on in case of Hybrids. If used with proper measure, hybriddrivetrainsenable improved efficiency, emissions and enhanced performance.
