      The Kottai Sangameswarar temple car festival went off without any hiccups on Feb 7, 2012 due to the presence of the police force. The event of the temple located in the Fort area had been held after a hiatus of 18 years in 2011.

      A total of 1500 police officers flanked the car as it passed through the route covering Easwaran Koil Street, Perumal Koil Street, NH Road and Big Bazaar Street and made its way back to the temple at 12.20 p.m. Peruar Adhinam Marudachala Adigalar, Shivashree Krishnamurthy swamigal and Gowmara Mutt Kumaragurupara swamigal were present at the event. R. Duraiswami, MLA; South tahsildar Ravi; Corporation Zonal Chairman Adinarayanan also attended.

      Commissioner of Police – Coimbatore City T.P. Sundaramurthy; DIG of Police H.M. Jayaraman; Deputy Commissioner of Police Hema Karunakaran; and Superintendents of Police E.S. Uma, S. Nizamuddin and Paneerselvam were responsible for overseeing the security set up for the car. Their planning, as well as the presence of Quick Reaction Team and commandos, ensured that the event passed without any problems

      Traffic jams were seen at Ramanathapuram Junction, Sungam round-about, Railway Station Road, Tiruchi Road, Goods Shed Road, flyover, Brooke Bond Road, and Mill Road as daily commuters had to follow a new route due to the car festival.
