Nissan is planning to sell its new “green car”, Nissan Leaf in the Japanese market from December this year. The car will be retailed at $25,000 or Rs. 11.25 lakh after tax credit. Nissan Leaf is the latest electric car model in company’s product portfolio. The car is priced ex factory at $32,780 or Rs. 14.75 lakh but buyers can avail electric car tax credit which lowers the price of the model.

Electric car models are the next new thing in the car market around the world. Nissan Leaf was introduced last year as a four door hatchback model in competition to Chevrolet Volt. General Motors is also planning to sell Chevrolet Volt in the US market from this year. It awaits Nissan Leaf’s pricing before it announces its own. "I think it's fair to say their pricing, it won't overwhelm, but it will have some influence on our pricing decision,'' said GM spokesman Rob Peterson.

The price of Leaf is about $10,810 cheaper than Mitsubishi Motors Corp's i-MiEV electric car, but still above the price of Toyota Motor Corp's top selling Prius gasoline-electric hybrid.
