The leaked sketch of the next generation BMW 3 series hints that its due update is in the works. The manufacturers have code named the new 3 series as G20 and the forthcoming car will replace the current BMW 3 series F30.

The leaked sketch of the new car suggests that its design will be sharper than the current 3 series which means that the upcoming car is expected to look sportier and sleeker. The side exhibits strong shoulder lines and the sharp creases. The addition of a fin-like air-vent on the fender is also a smart touch. The sketch also reveals the rear styling bits such as a futuristic tail lamp and a sporty bumper.

The lower variants of the next generation car are expected to be powered by BMW’s 1.5-litre turbo charged petrol engine. The current 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a diesel engine are likely to be carried forward with minor tweaks. Higher trim levels are expected to be offered with an optional ‘x-Drive’ all-wheel drive system from BMW.

The new 3 series may get unveiled in the 2018 Geneva or Paris Motor show. However, it is unlikely that the new car will make its way to the Indian market any time before the latter half of next year. When launched, the 3 series will continue its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE, Volvo Polestar and the Audi A4.
