ICML (International Cars & Motors Limited) owned by the Sonalika Group of companies has announced that it will be launching a brand new SUV in the Indian Market in the near future. The model will compete with Mahindra Scorpio which is the segment leader in India. ICML is currently working on the concept named “The Inspire” since 2008 where it had shown the concept model at the Auto Expo 2008. The model is being developed in association with Italian design studio Pininfarina.
ICML had stated then that the model will go into production in 2010 and will be position as “World SUV” in its product portfolio. ICML currently has Rhino model in the SUV segment and is better known for making tractors and farm equipments.
International Tractors’ president, international business, Rajiv Wahi told FE the company is open to forging alliances with foreign partners to source the requisite technology to power its automobile dream. “As a group, automobile is one of our three segments apart from tractors and farm equipment. We realise the potential in the automobile space and want to be present in all segments,” he said. ICML intends to build the SUV model on a platform that can also be used to produce a sedan as well.
