Mercedes-Benz has decided to launch its most affordable luxury sedan in India. The sedan will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants, and will take on its most formidable rival Audi A3. Sources claim that the model will hit the Indian roads on January 22. The car is almost similar to CLA 45 AMG, which was launched in July last year. The most notable difference between the two models is the fact that the CLA was in full spec AMG trim. This meant that it was a more performance-oriented trim. On the other hand, the standard CLA is a more tamed-down version making it more suitable for daily usage. A more comfortable suspension awaits the standard variant, both in the conventional diesel and petrol engines. The price tag is also expected to be more reasonable and is placed just below the C-Class and placed against the Audi A3.

The CLA sedan uses Mercedes’ MFA (Modular Front-wheel Drive Architecture) platform, which also underpins A, B, GLA-Class and CLA 45 AMG. Mercedes has made it better for the youth and the styling has been efficiently done for the youth. The long nose of the car is specific for the low, coupe-like roof line and smaller boot extensions.

The CLA will share the same engine as that of GLA-crossover. It is able to generate a power of 136 PS with the help of a 2.2 litre diesel mill. On the other hand, the petrol variant is powered by a 2.0 litre turbo mill, which churns out 183 PS. Both the engines are mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox to the front wheels. The price of the model has been kept at 27 lakhs INR and will go on sale according to the CBU structure, just like other siblings.
