Ford India has stormed the Indian auto market by rolling in its much hyped new Ford Fiesta on Thursday. The sizzling sedan had earlier been unveiled on 14th April this year for press and public at Ford Café in the national capital.
Announcing the Fiesta’s pricing, Ford has tagged the sedan in the price bracket of Rs 8.31 lakh to Rs 10.51 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new Fiesta is available in both petrol and diesel variants and will be manufactured at company’s Chennai plant.
At the occasion, Ford India President and MD Michael Boneham expressed company’s future plans for the country. He said, "Ford is not backing away from its commitment to the Indian market. We are here for the long haul and launch this vehicle and reiterate our 'One Ford' vision by bringing the first of the eight new global vehicles to be launched here by 2015."
With Ford Figo’s success in this part of the world and with the new Fiesta getting closer to buyers with its contemporary styling, Ford is set to show the market what it is capable of.
"This month we will be assessing the response. I think the way we have priced the Fiesta, it will be very attractive to our customers," he replied when asked about sales target. "Given the global response to the car, we will be capacity constrained," Boneham added.
The new Ford Fiesta will be offered with TiVCT petrol and TDCI diesel options. Petrol engine gives 109 bhp maximum output and 140 Nm of torque while the more popular diesel mill offers a decent 90 bhp of power and 204 Nm of peak torque.
On fuel efficiency grounds, the new Ford Fiesta is expected to return 17 kmpl in contrast to the diesel variant which is speculated to offer 23.5 kmpl of mileage.
