Mercedes-AMG has added another performance-oriented model to its C-Class family, the new C43 4MATIC Coupe. Although not as ludicrously potent as the V8-powered C63 AMG, the new C43 Coupe packs in plenty of punch thanks to its 367bhp 3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine and the 9-speed automatic gearbox.
On the outside, the C43 4MATIC Coupe differentiates itself from the rest of the C-Class range with the help of sportier looking air intakes, silver chrome trim, new 5-spoke alloy wheel design and silver diffuser insert. Additional highlights include black exterior mirror housings and two chrome-plated tailpipes.
Since this new addition focuses mainly on performance, it makes sense to talk more about the drivetrain. The 3-litre, twin-turbo V6 engine develops 367bhp of power and 520Nm of torque. Thanks to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and the quick-shifting 9-speed automatic gearbox, the sprint from rest to 100kmph takes just 4.7 seconds. The top speed, meanwhile, is electronically limited at 250kmph.
Interestingly, the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system in the C43 has a rear-biased torque distribution of 31 to 69 per cent (front axle to rear axle) for better overall handling balance. This new model also gets AMG’s Ride Control suspension which features variable damping to suit different road conditions.
The new C43 4MATIC Coupe is now on sale in Europe. As for the Indian market, Mercedes India will continue to offer the regular C-Class range besides the monstrous C63 AMG. But, given Mercedes focus on its performance range, we wont be surprised if the C43 makes it to our shores as well.
