      Maruti Suzuki sales fall 7 percent during December 2011

      While a number of other leading car makers in India managed to keep their sales figures positive during the month of December 2011, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki saw a fall of 7.1 percent during this month. This is consecutive sixth month when Maruti Suzuki India has registered a decrease in its sales. The company’s sales slumped sharply during the month of September, October and November 2011, by 21 percent, 53 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

      The company sold a total of 92,161 units during this month, as compared to 99,225 units sold in the same month last year. In the domestic market, the company’s sales stood at 77,475 units during the month, as compared to 89,469 units sold in the same month last year, accounting for a sales dip of 13.4 per cent.

      However, the exports of the company stood at 14,686 units during the month, as compared to 9,756 units dispatched to the overseas market in the same month last year, registering a sales surge of 50.5 per cent.

      The mini segment of Maruti Suzuki (M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR) stood at 38,593 units as compared to 45,733 units during December 2010, registering a sharp fall of 15.6 per cent. On the other hand, the compact segment cars (Estilo, Swift and Ritz) stood at 20,653 as compared to 20,557 units sold same month last year, accounting for a marginal decrease. Sales of Maruti Swift Dzire, SX4 and Kizashi, stood at 9,189 units, 843 units and 51 units, respectively.
