      Maruti Suzuki sales dip 5 percent in May12

      The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited has registered a sales dip of five percent during the month of May 2012. The company sold a total of 98,884 units of its cars in the Indian market during this month as compared to 104,073 units sold in the same month last year.

      In the domestic market, the total sales of the company stood at 89,478 units during the month of May 2012, as compared to 93,519 units sold in the same month last year, registering a sales dip of 4.3 percent.

      On the other hand, the total exports of the company stood at 9,406 units as compared to 10,554 units dispatched to the overseas market in the same month previous year.

      The sales of company’s small car segment including Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, dipped 29 percent to 29,895 units as compared to 42,125 units sold in May 2011.

      The compact hatchbacks segment sales including Swift, Estilo and Ritz stood at 24,290 units during this month as compared to 21,185 units sold in May 2011, registering a surge of 14.7 percent. The sales of company’s popular entry level sedan Swift Dzire stood at 17,707 units as against 10,812 units sold same month last year, accounting for a growth of 63.8 percent.

      However, the sales of company’s midsize sedan SX4 dipped 85 percent at 405 units as compared to 2,702 units sold in the same month previous year.
