      Ford India records decline in sales by 14.66 percent in May 2012

      Ford India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the American multinational automaker, Ford Motor Company, has reported a plunged down sales for the month of May by 14.66 percent as compared to the corresponding month in 2011.

      The sales for the month of May this year totalled at 7,729 units as against the sales of 9,057 units scored in May last year. Of these, the company’s domestic sales witnessed a steep decline of 14.33 percent, from 7,046 units sold in May 2011 to 6036 units sold in the corresponding month this year. The exports are reported to have dived by 15.81 percent from around 2,011 units sold in May last year to the sale of 1,693 units clocked this May.

      Mr. Michael Boneham, the President and Managing Director, Ford India commented on the sales attained and the planned course of action to be undertaken, saying, "Despite the challenging market conditions, Ford is confident in the long-term future of the automotive market in India. We will continue investing to expand manufacturing and retail capacity in order to bring more great value-for-money, fun-to-drive, fuel efficient vehicles to India."

      He further said that the surging demand for diesel powered cars in India owing to rising variations in prices of petrol will be catered by the company with greater production and supply of diesel run cars. The company has already increased the engine production capacity at its Chennai facility to around 3,40,000 engines with an infusion of USD 72 million.
