      Maruti Suzuki joins hands with Indian Railways for special transportation rakes

      India's leading carmaker leads the charts for all the right reasons. The car maker has been putting in constant effort with the Indian Railways to launch bigger and better mode of transportation. The new rake designed by Indian Railways has been rechristned as 'Flexi deck auto-wagon rake'. The new rake has been designed and made a reality by Indian Railway's Research Design and Standards Organization. The new luggage carriers are said to be 20% more effiecient than the existing ones and can carry upto 318 cars as against 265 cars that could be transported earlier.

      M M Singh, Chief Operating Officer for Production, Maruti Suzuki, said, "Trains are one of the fastest, safest and eco-friendly modes of transportation. With these newly designed rakes, we have been able to increase the load carrying capacity along with a high flexibility to cater to a variety of vehicle dimensions." Maruti Suzuki takes pride in calling itself as the first Indian automobile company to proquire the first set of flexi deck auto-wagon rakes in the country. The company has been using the railway mode for transportation for nearly two decades now since its saved a lot of time and cost for transporation.

      Kenichi Ayukawa, Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are delighted to have initiated this contemporary mode of transport to the Indian automobile industry, The Indian Railways deserves all the credit for their foresight and tremendous enthusiasm and cooperation to make this initiative move from a concept to reality within a short span of around 36 months.” The new rakes are not just bigger, but also better, the older ones ran at speeds of up to 65 km/hr, whereas the fresh ones are capable of attaining speeds of upto 95 km/hr. For now, Maruti Suzuki has received 3 such rakes with 27 wagons on each of them, the new ones are expected to be pressed into service to cover the entire route from the Northern to the Southern part of India.
